I recently bought a Samurai sword, and wondered what the correct technique is for using them. I understand they are not like other swords, with you can just use to lunge, i've always assumed you have to move them sidewards across the body, in a sort of slashing motion.

Am I correct?

If you look at the blade the top inch or two should be sharper than the rest.  That is really the part of the sword you are looking to cut with.

Dear Dale369 can you put the sword image here, and how much did you pay for it.

It can be used to stab, but the main use is to sever arteries. You would attempt to slice the insides of the limbs, armpit, neck, thigh.

In general you could cut the most vital areas such as major veins and arteries as well as tendons and major muscles.
