kyushoguy...
You do not have to be DKI to train with Dillman. We trained with him for about 2 or 3 years before joining his organization.
Most of your replies to my postings sound just like my instructors and the DKI guys I train with occasionally. That's why I thought I might know you!!

The key with a gun is to know that the dangerous part is the small whole on the end and that it is always centered, the trick is to first move that whole three inch to one side or the other first, then use a take away you know. do this as the shoter is speaking to you, that improves you odds. I have had a gun pulled on me twice, the first time I got a clean take away from a possible head shot. the second time I was shot in the left shoulder, but I'm still here! I must confess that I would bet people when they said," karate can't beat a 38". I would bet them $ 80 to 100.oo that I could take there gun before they could pull the trigger. But that was a long time ago, when I was young and I thought I was all of that. Some day maybe I tell you guys the whole story on that.

Regarding speech and the gun: Basicly, the gun defense requires (1) get out of the way (2) strike (3) get control of the gun. Two and three generally occur together.
One sucker tactic I heard about, but fortunately never had to use, is indeed to speak. You may have permission to pray. Say something like "Our Father who art in Ohio ..." or something bizzare like that while you launch your defense. The "mistake" engages the thinking of the perpetrator and makes your technique easier to execute.

I have also learned the speaking part as well.
I can see how saying something that doesnt make sense could make the attacher think for a second. i would be very interested to find out if anyone has ever tried it with success.

I saw a security video clip that was on the news some time ago. It obviously made a lasting impression on me. A hostage was in a one arm choke hold from the rear with the perpetrator's left hand. The right hand had the gun to the victim's head. There was a SWAT team. The victim got out.
The victim pointed and looked to the left. I don't recall what he seemed to say but I'd guess it was something like "Look". The perpetrator took the gun away from the victim's head, held it in front of the victim's face pointing off to the left, where the victim was pointing.
The victim then grabbed the gun and escaped the hold.

Master Lambert's descriptions of gun encounters are scary. Many of us here were not supposed to make it this far. I'm glad Master Lambert is still here to tell the story. He is a wealth of information.
Thanks, Tom

Thank you Tom, I will give you a new key, not really new but just forgotten. starting posture! starting posture is the on gaurd posture like the common one everybody uses the fist over fist posture that is commonly seen in a sparring match. is one tells the attacker were he CAN NOT HIT, so it will be common to see the attacker go for the open area of the body. there are six common postures, that open and close body area and they link in a cartain patern, learn them all and learn how they interchange, this will confuse the attacker as to how he will get in a first strike if you get good at it, it can even stop a fight from even starting! I say the because it is the highest form of training. and is able to over come any pp technique. or any other form or method.
