Have you ever seen some of his old videos?
If you havent try a youtube search for him.

Personally I think he is very good martial artist.

Steven Segal; Had his own Dojo in Japan for how long (i don,t know), but just the Fact that He Taught in Japan, should tell all of you that are Skeptical that He was, and still is a Very Competent. He's Ego has grown quite a bit, because of the Movie Star Business, but, in my humble opinion, he is a better Aikido Player then he is as a Movie Star Grin

As Ive said before his first wife was Japanese and his teacher,
It was her fathers dojo he taught at.

His father in law put him over his daughter as they dont tend to like women in Japan as much as guys apparently.

He got upgraded by him from first dan to a much higher grade.

Not so impressive when you know the facts?

Sounds like there were politics involved, which really does not matter to me--The FACT REMAINS - He is a VERY COMPETENT with His Aikido!
I had an assignment in California, where I met some of Master Segal's Stunt Men. They were complaining that Master Segal was just a little too hard when executing the Waza's in his Movies -

Well it's all relative what we think of him.

Yes he is known to bully his students.

Unfortunately he did this to some of Gene leBells students hence Gene

knocking him out

It has been said that when Steven Seagal kills a ninja, he only takes its hide. When Chuck Norris kills a ninja, he uses every part.

kyusho,
i've seen Sensei Steven Seagal perform tenshin aikido on his own video "The Path Beyond Thought" and it appears very effective in defending one's self towards a jujitsu artist such as Gene Lebell. It sounds like a publicity stunt or rumor started by Lebell ever placing Seagal in a choke hold? Unless, Seagal was accepting a personal martial arts lesson from Gene Lebell, and then proceed loose his bladder control? LOL  Wink Since there's no actual video footage of Lebell choking Seagal into unconsciousnes, it's likely this event never occcured. Or, Lebell was siding with the "Deadly Dozen" of martial artists(Bob Wall, Benny 'the jet' Uurquidez, and many more...) out to discredit Steven Seagal in print in that past article in the Black Belt Magazine because of Seagal's introduction and success to filmdom as well. There was another magazine quoting Steven Seagal as "The new and improved Clint Eastwood', but i forgot the name of it, it came out in the early 1990's. I do remember watching a movie scene with Gene Lebell attempting to place a choke hold on Jeff Speakman, but Lebell was way too slow and ineffective up against Speakman's kenpo prowess in that scene. Didn't Lebell used to be a professional wrestler during the 1940's and 1950's? Could've been that Lebell's students never prepared themselves with aikido falls and lessons beforehand, got cocky, and had to learn the hard way of taking falls at the hands of Sensei Seagal because they didn't give themselves enough time to properly learn aikido with Sensei Seagal on the dojo mat or wherever this may have occured, and took some hard knocks? Sean connery had to learn the hard way attempting to twist out of Sensei Seagal's joint lock on Connery's wrist while taking lessons from Steven Seagal, resulting in Connery dislocating his own wrist. Huh I may be wrong?
