Man am I feeling old. We have a small club. It's up to me to get my brown belt ready for the advanced division. So we fought 3 times & I sparred with the purple belt. These kids are getting faster & I'm getting older & slower. It was a good workout though & I guess in the long run it's also good for me. It keeps me on my old toes. It looks like we will field about half a dozen competitors. Now is the time to go hard not the week before. A week or 2 before the competition we just concentrate on speed & technique. You don't want your fighters to go in there with injuries before they get out there.  Lets hear from the old guys.

A note for all the old guys, a great training method for speed that works quickly is using the beat of a metrenom to increase the speed of attack and or defence. This work when you slowly increase the speed of the beat between interaction. The second way to use a beat is to only allow a certain number of beat to an interaction, start with maybe 30 beats (from start to finish) at a slow rate and pick up the speed slowly as you reduce the count down to 5 beats.. If you work,2 hour periods for a week (before the match)you will increase speed dramaticlly.Remembering that the key to all speed is super relaxation.

Wow!  That's a great idea of using the metronome.  I never would have thought of it.  Speed & flexibility are the 2 things that go on you as you get older.  Actually there are 3 things that go on you when you get old.  The 1st is your memory & the other 2 I forget.  Ha ha.

Thanks Again,
Sensei Tom
