Striking this point correctly will hurt like crazy, but you will not swallow your tongue or choke to death.  Tap in lightly and your mouth will open and your head will tip forward.  You have to REALLY REALLY REALLY HIT HARD, VERY HARD, with any kind of srtike to kill someone.
