Yes that is a good way to do your Kata. I do Kata hard, semi hard, and soft.
Try them this way this is a Zen thing DO YOUR KATA BUT COME BEHIND WITH ALL YOUR MOVES but do not change the Kata.

I try to do each kata several times. One very slow to ensure proper foot work, then medium to up the speed a bit and go for power then fast to work on speed.

I walk about three fourths of a mile to were I do my work out, along with kata. I never do everything in the same order, or in the same way but always with a perpose. If I am not quit awake yet, I do Qi gung ( standing first) stretching and hand and foot hardening then Kata. I will start the kata ( first five moves) to find it weakness and start over again focused on the weakness ( say the foot work) and the foot work will be done in slow speed and the rest of the movement faster. And if the breathing is weak that day I focus on that by recreating the movements starting -ending, per each movement. It is good to change the order and direction every day, the last thing I do is to take the weakest movement or technique out of any kata and practice it over and over again exposing it weakness. It is aways good to do kata as a moving meditation, with the focus on the one point and bring the one point out to the hand-feet with strike or block.
